Taiwan has provided 5 million USD for Lithuanian-initiated reconstruction projects in Ukraine

Taiwan has joined Lithuania's initiative to rebuild a school in Borodyanka, which was destroyed by Russian troops in the Kyiv region, and a kindergarten in Irpine, which was damaged by shelling, by contributing 5 million USD.

The targeted contribution, transferred to the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund administered by the Central Project Management Agency (CPMA), will be used to improve the school and kindergarten environment, as well as for landscaping and playground equipment.

„This contribution from Taiwan will help accelerate the implementation of the reconstruction projects initiated by Lithuania in Ukraine. These are projects that respond to the basic daily needs of the population to send their children to kindergarten and school and inspire great hope and faith in the future," said Lidija Kašubienė, Head of the CPMA. 

According Eric Huang, Representative and Head of The Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania Taiwan is honoured to accept Lithuania's invitation to join in several projects initiated by Lithuania in rebuilding Ukraine. “Ukraine is in frontline facing authoritarian regimes' aggression. We should reinforce each other to defend our values of democracy and freedom "- said Eric Huang.

Lithuanian and Taiwan funds will be used to rebuild a modern, European-style school, which is expected to educate up to 700 children. The kindergarten in Irpine will be modernised by adding a third floor, which will increase the number of groups from 12 to 13 and allow up to 450 children to attend the kindergarten.

The Government of the Republic of Lithuania has already allocated over 9.8 million. euros for the reconstruction of the school and kindergarten, the allocated funds will cover the building renovation works, the installation of a bomb shelter in the school and the purchase of part of the equipment. The financing provided by Taiwan will allow to organize the environment of the school and kindergarten, to provide all the equipment necessary for the educational process.

Contractors are working intensively on both the school and the kindergarten, with up to 80 construction workers on site at any one time. Demolition work has already been completed, new walls and windows are being built and the third floor of the kindergarten is being bricked up. The CPMA is in charge of the implementation of the projects.

The Fund, which is financed from national and municipal budgets, international donors, the private sector and other sources, is administered by the CPMA, which has a long experience in managing development cooperation programmes and projects.
