The Lithuanians' gift – almost one and a half hundred windows for a school in Snihurivka

145 windows were installed in the damaged school in the town of  Snihurivka, Mykolaiv region. The project was initiated by "Ltintus," a Lithuanian window manufacturer and its implementation was coordinated by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA).  

"Each reconstruction project implemented in Ukraine is another step towards the victory of the Ukrainians and a brighter future for the country. We support Ukraine not only by rebuilding it‘s cities but also by providing military aid and other necessary equipment for Ukrainian soldiers and people. Lithuania's total support has already exceeded 1 billion euros, so we must continue to unite our efforts and show Ukraine that it is not alone in the face of the war provoked by Russia," says Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.  

According to Artūras Žarnovskis, head of CPVA's "Co-create Future of Ukraine" program, when "LTintus" offered windows as an aid for Ukraine and approached the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, CPVA stepped in to contact partners in Ukraine and figure out where the support would be needed most. 

So, CPVA learned about the school in Snihurivka, near the frontlines in the Mykolaiv region. "The school had been standing with broken windows for a year, so it was essential to seal it, protect it from environmental impacts, and create conditions for 300 students to return to school. This project demonstrated the public sector's ability to work together with the private sector to achieve the best result," says Arturas Žarnovskis.  

The town of Snihurivka was liberated by the Ukrainian armed forces in November 2022 – the Russian occupation there lasted for 8 months. People had to live without water, electricity, and gas, and the occupiers destroyed most of the town's educational institutions. 

CPVA organized and coordinated the transportation of windows to Ukraine, and took care of their installation, the finishing works, and blinds installation for the south side of the school.  

Located in Šiauliai, "Ltintus" is a subsidiary of the American polymer window manufacturer "Intus Windows," whose factory opened last year in the Šiauliai industrial park. It is one of the largest in the Baltic countries. The company manufactured and donated 145 windows to the school in Snihurivka, valued at approximately 44 thousand euros. The total value of the project, funded by the Fund for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, is 64 thousand euros.  

According to Karolis Grigalius, head of "Ltintus," the windows for the Snihurivka school is not the only company’s supportive initiative for Ukraine. Since the start of full-scale war, the company has donated to the "Blue/Yellow" organization, encouraged company employees to donate, doubling their collected funds, and later employed 8 Ukrainians who fled the war.  

"It's very important for everyone to start with themselves and contribute to Ukraine’s fight not only by words but by deeds. Implementing this project, we joined forces with public sector institutions and hope that this is certainly not our last joint support project for Ukraine. Together until victory!" emphasizes K. Grigalius.  

For Lithuania and CPVA this project is a part of the larger efforts on Ukraine’s education recovery. Among them is the restoration project for the "Rūta" kindergarten in Irpin and the school in Borodyanka for 700 children, both funded by the Fund for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid. Currently, CPVA is also managing the furnishing of a reconstructed kindergarten in Borodyanka with funds from the American NGO "Hope Foundation," implementing an anti-radiation shelter project in a kindergarten in Irpin.
